Family Resource Centers

The Housing Authority of New Haven maintains Family Resource Centers (FRCs) at four family developments: Eastview Terrace, Farnam Courts, Quinnipiac Terrace, and Monterey Place.  FRCs are designed to strengthen families by addressing issues that prevent them from attaining self-suffiency. They provide an integrated approach to eliminating the causes of poverty.

Under the coordination of the New Haven Family Alliance, Family Resource Center programming focuses on three areas: employment, education and training; case management/career counseling, and; family services/residential leadership development.  In addition to offering its own resources, the FRC is a gateway for local social service providers who may establish an on-site presence in the targeted communities.

By working on a local level, FRCs rely on community members to accomplish much of the planning, implementation, and programming. For example, residents work as Family Advocates and thus have direct input into the design and operation of the FRC.  This approach makes the FRC an active part of the community, and an accessible resource for families interested in its services.
